Asthma is a condition that affects the airways of the lungs. From time to time the airways constrict (become narrow) in people who have asthma. This causes the typical symptoms of wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath.

Asthma can start at any age, but it most commonly starts in childhood. At least 1 in 10 children, and 1 in 20 adults, have asthma.

It is important for you to have your Asthma regularly reviewed - twice a year would be ideal if your asthma is well controlled but more frequently if it is not.  Our Practice Nurses are able to offer help and support to help you better control your asthma, check your inhaler technique and test your lung function if this is required.

We have developed an Asthma Management Plan which our Practice Nurses will discuss with you.  You can use it to record information and take control of your Asthma.
