Alcohol

We now offer all newly registered patients over the age of 16 the opportunity to complete a brief alcohol screening questionnaire.  If the results are positive then they are asked to complete a longer questionnaire.

If the overall results show that they may have a problem with alcohol then they will be asked to make an appointment with their GP.  The GP will offer what is termed “Brief Intervention” in the first instance.  This short intervention is proven to be effective in reducing alcohol consumption to safe levels.

However, it may not work for everyone and in some cases it would be appropriate to refer the patient for more specialist support.
Our aim is to offer patients the chance of reducing potentially harmful drinking before it causes major health problems.
